Glenn Pauling and Scott Walker continued their Australian Open Pairs campaign on Monday 20th June 2016.

Drawn in the knockout phase at Coolangatta Bowling Club, the South Perth pair survived a nailbiting 18-17 contest over S Franklin & M Miller in the morning session.

The following round saw a tough encounter with accomplished pairing Ray Pearse and Kelvin Kerkow, and despite their best efforts Pauling and Walker were defeated 10-17.

In the Over 60’s Pairs, South Perth had a sole representative, Geoff Havercroft, who paired up with Ross Porteous from Sorrento.

Conditions were tough at Paradise Point Bowling Club, though the green played very well given it had been flooded the night before when a storm passed through the area.

In their initial match the West Australian pairing struggled to come to terms with the conditions, falling 4-27 to I Keat & T Williams.

A better showing in the second round saw them competitive in a good standard match with the Queensland pairing of M Ferguson and P Young, eventually losing 10-20.

A change of order in the last game wasn’t able to produce a change of fortune for Porteous & Havercroft. A 12-28 loss to W Rowbottom & C Pritchard ending their campaign in the sectional stage.
