Australian Open Singles Continuation

Adrian Durrant Aus Open

South Perth had three bowlers progress through the singles sectional play at the Australian Open.

On Saturday, Adrian Durrant, Glenn Pauling and Scott Walker all lined up in the 256-man draw.

Adrian Durrant faced local Phil Brandon (Broadbeach) at Coolangatta Bowling Club. Down at various stages (0-6 and 12-19), Adrian worked back into the match to close to 16-20. On what would be the final end, Adrian held a good two before Phil killed the end and the resulting re-spot saw Adrian two down with one bowl in hand. A brave effort sat out the nearest opposition bowl but also exited the head leaving the other opposition bowl in place and giving Phil Brandon a 21-16 win.

Scott Walker and Glenn Pauling were drawn on adjacent rinks at Musgrave Hill, alongside each other in the knockout draw. Scott accounted for Park Beach bowler Mario Muscat (21-13) to progress to the last 128, while Glenn Pauling faced NSW representative and Cabramatta player Corey Wedlock, losing (15-21) in a brave effort.

Scott then faced Glenn’s opponent Corey Wedlock and often found himself under pressure. To his credit Scott played some superb bowls to stay in the match but the consistent Wedlock was able to run out victor (21-14).
