South Perth duo Scott Walker and Glenn Pauling teamed up with Manning’s Dale Marsland to claim the Henselite Men’s State Triples on Sunday.
Entering their last game of sectional play on Saturday with two wins, they lost their last by a single shot to Neil Bolton from Cambridge, but still progressed as the section winner.
In knockout play, they defeated Warnbro’s Steve Novak (13-11) in the round of sixteen and then Gary Caffell from Osborne Park (10-9) in the quarter-finals.
In the semi-final they accounted for last year’s winning skipper, Bassendean’s Justin Opie (22-14) which set-up a final where they ran into three state players, a composite side comprising Cody Packer, Shane Knott and Thomas Mitchell.
In a slogging 18-end duel, the teams fought out a high scoring contest, with Walker, Pauling and Marsland prevailing 23-22.
