Hot on the heels of success at Yanchep the previous week, our Winter Pennant side arrived at Hilton Park with high hopes.
Unfortunately, so did Cambridge, who selected a very strong side for this encounter and so The Millers were up against it from the outset.
Cambridge looked very much at home on a holding 11 second green. Perhaps they had been practicing on their own grass green which has been known to get up to that speed.
Ray Miles, Klaire Hughes and Lynne Palmer probably fared worst with the rink draw, running into a red-hot Brad Ball rink.
The Cambridge lead on that rink was unbelievable, averaging a toucher every end through the first third of the game. To their credit Ray’s side held their heads high in what was a hard day at the office.
Ruby Edwards played a brilliant skipper’s game, having the better of Mohan Lal through the first fourteen ends before eventually losing 22-12. Bill Culverhouse made a good debut in our Winter Pennant side this season as lead on this rink.
Lastly Rod Clinch’s rink, led by Danny Green & Andrew Roberts salvaged a point, and some South Perth pride by defeating Premier League skipper Chris Lander 19-12.
All-in-all a tough outing, but Rod Clinch’s victory ensured we had something to smile about as we left Hilton Park.
Names for this week’s game at Mount Pleasant on the board by Thursday afternoon please.
