Mt Pleasant 62 (6) def South Perth 39 (0)

A much changed South Perth side was faced with the unenviable task of playing Mt Pleasant on their home track on the second Sunday of the season.
Bill Culverhouse, Danny Green and David Hagen were slow to begin, dropping a five on the first end and finding themselves down 14-2 before the dew had begun to dry upon the Mt Pleasant carpet. On the eighth end Hagen’s side picked up a maximum count and held their own for the second half of the match, losing 22-14.
Michael Dodd, Jan Bennett and Ray Miles were also tardily away, dropping a five on their first end. On the next end a three was lost but to their credit they showed character to eventually head to the last end needing a four for an unlikely victory. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, another three conceded saw a final score of 13-19 recorded.
The final rink of Irene Groves, Geoff Havercroft and Joe Cunningham grabbed a two on the first end before finding themselves 4-5 down after seven in a tight encounter. As the game went on Mt Pleasant gained the ascendancy but Cunningham’s side did rally to score a four on the last end, eventually losing 12-21.
Aside from a terrible start, the Millers side was able to go with the Mt Pleasant side through the middle stages and there were signs of an improved showing next weekend.
