2012-13 6th Gold Promotion Final

Having finished in fifth position at the end of the regular season, South Perth was faced with a sudden-death Semi Final against runners-up Como on their beautiful grass green.

Undaunted the underdogs found their feet quickly, carving out a stylish win and setting up a clash with Melville in the afternoon Promotion Final.

Selectors were forced to make one change between matches with Graham Hay substituting for the unavailable Wayne Skuza.

As the afternoon drew on, Millers from all divisions swarmed to the Como Bowling Club as word travelled around of their unlikely morning victory.

Melville gained the ascendancy through the middle part of the contest and at one stage held a ten shot lead.

Just as it seemed that victory was out of South Perth’s reach, momentum swung and the Danny Green led rink picked up a big score.

Needing to win the last end of the match, Michael Dodd landed a couple of Taylors close to the jack.

Melville were unable to convert the head, and a resting toucher from Ray Miles put the result beyond doubt.
